1. Introduction
The NAAA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program is designed to enhance NAAA member’s skills and knowledge on a continuing basis.
NAAA provides seminars and lectures to support the CPD Program and combined with other training conducted by security industry Registered Training Organisations (RTO), in-house training by employer security companies and eligible private study, will enable members to comply with the NAAA CPD requirements.
2. Individual CPD Requirements
How do I gain points?
CPD points may be gained through “CPD Activity“ (see definitions):

3. Ongoing Compliance
Members are required to accrue 12 CPD points per calendar year, or accumulate points on a pro rata basis, when joining the CPD Program within a calendar year.
Points cannot be transferred from one calendar year to the next.
3.1 Your CPD Records
It is each Individual Member’s responsibility to keep track of his or her accrued CPD records.
The NAAA has a
CPD record form, which must be completed and provided to the NAAA for auditing purposes. The NAAA will conduct audits of compliance with the CPD Program.
Members should keep supporting documentation to confirm their claims for points and note their participation in and the duration of:
- All NAAA Training and activities, where points are applied.
- Non- NAAA training attended, for example, completion certificate, statement of attainment or attendance, referral letter from training provider, noting the presenter/lecturer and relevant course details.
- Books read, for example, titles and author.
- Videos, DVD’s, Video streaming & Webcast training, for example, titles.
3.2 Access Your CPD Records
NAAA Individual members may access their records of NAAA CPD points, by logging on to:
www.amca.org.au members section.
As a general rule, one hour is equivalent to one CPD point.
Your login is your NAAA member’s login.
4. Definitions
A “CPD activity” may consist of:
a) A security industry seminar, workshop, lecture, conference, discussion group, multimedia, web-based program, audio/video material or online program and any other security industry educational activity howsoever it may be delivered from time to time.
b) The research, preparation or editing by a security industry participant of an article published in a security industry publication or a security industry article in a non- security industry publication. A security industry participant may claim 1 CPD unit for every 1000 words of such article, but a security industry participant may not claim in a CPD year more than 5 CPD units in this category.
c) The preparation and/or presentation by a security industry participant of material to be used in a CPD activity or in other forms of education provided to security industry participants and/or to other security industry professionals and/or to other persons including security industry trainees, but a security industry participant may not claim in any CPD year more than 5 CPD units in this category.
d) Membership of an NAAA Committee, (or the Board of Directors of the NAAA ) or a security industry committee provided that the security industry participant regularly attends its meetings, if the work performed on the committee is of substantial significance to the security industry and is reasonably likely to assist the security industry participant’s professional development. A security industry participant may claim 1 CPD unit for every 2 hours of participation in a Committee or similar group in this category and may not claim in any CPD year more than 5 CPD units in this category.
e) Private study does not constitute CPD activity for the purpose of the NAAA CPD Program unless it involves the private study of audio or video material specifically designed for the purpose of updating a security industry participant’s knowledge and/or skills relevant to his/her occupational needs. A security industry participant may claim 1 CPD unit for every 1 hour of such private study and may not claim in any CPD year more than 5 CPD units under this category.
5. Questions and Answers
Who is responsible to comply with CPD Program?
It is up to the Individual Member, not the employer security company to comply with the CPD Program.
Can I carry over excess CPD points from one year to the next?
No. CPD points cannot be carried forward. At the beginning of each calendar year, CPD points start back at zero.
Where can I view my CPD records?

Do I need to make application for approval for CPD points?
No. However, for audit purposes, keep an accurate record of training that you have attended and note the duration of training. For example, completion certificate from an RTO, statement of attainment/attendance, referral letter from the training provider.
Does CPD have anything to do with retaining my Security Agent’s licence?
Possibly. CPD is a legislative requirement in Victoria.
I am undertaking CPD in NSW. Is there any mutual recognition?
Possibly. CPD is operated by the NAAA in a national basis. The NAAA will be seeking clarification of the recognition in NSW as a part of its application as an Approved Security Industry Association in these States.
How does the NAAA know if I have CPD complied with the requirements?
The NAAA will carry out a audits of members to confirm that CPD has been completed. During an audit, you are required to provide evidence of meeting CPD requirements to the CPD Administrator for validation.
What happens if I get selected for audit and I haven’t completed my
CPD?
If you have not accrued enough points your CPD recognition will be suspended. You must then cease to promote yourself as an NAAA CPD Program participant.
What do I have to provide during an audit?
You should complete the AMCA CPD record form, which you can download from the AMCA web site and provide any of the supporting documentation referenced in the record form as reasonably requested by the CPD Administrator.
Do I have to send evidence of completion back to the AMCA?
No (except for audit purposes), however, your evidence of completion should be retained for three years after the completion of any CPD year.
Do all NAAA seminars and lectures have CPD points?
Yes. All NAAA seminars and lectures have CPD points and are based on one point per hour.
Do I accrue CPD points for delivering security industry training for the NAAA?

What kinds of speakers will be recognised?
Any “security industry” related speakers and lecturers of educational value would qualify, up to a maximum of three CPD points per session. For example, NAAA meeting speakers, NAAA forums/conference speakers and speakers in regard to security industry legislation and standards changes.
What kind of DVD/videos will be recognised?
Any security industry professional development instructional DVD/videos will qualify, up to a maximum of two CPD points. For example, DVD/videos half an hour in length will represent half a CPD point.
What kind of books for reading will be recognised?
Any security industry professional development instructional books will qualify, up to a maximum of two CPD points. For example, each book will represent one
CPD point.
Does the NAAA offer security industry books, DVD’s or videos?
The NAAA is developing a library and will provide access to training materials for members and non-members.
If I am a security industry participant in both NSW and VIC do I need to complete CPD points for both states?
No. The NAAA CPD Program is operated on a national basis.
